Veterans of Foreign Wars Scholarship Opportunities for Students
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is once again offering two incredible scholarship opportunities for middle school and high school students. These programs give young people the chance to reflect on patriotism, share their voices, and potentially win significant scholarship awards.
Voice of Democracy Program (Grades 9–12)
The Voice of Democracy program is designed for high school students. Participants are asked to submit a 3–5 minute audio recording along with a written essay.
Theme: “How are you showing patriotism and support for our country?”
Eligibility: Open to students in grades 9–12, enrolled by the October 31, 2025 deadline.
Prizes: The top national prize is a $35,000 scholarship. Additional awards are available at the Post, District, and State levels.
Patriot’s Pen Program (Grades 6–8)
The Patriot’s Pen program gives middle school students the opportunity to express their views in writing. Participants must submit a 300–400 word essay.
Theme: “How are you showing patriotism and support for our country?”
Eligibility: Open to students in grades 6–8, enrolled by the October 31, 2025 deadline.
Prizes: The top national prize is a $5,000 scholarship. Additional awards are available at the Post, District, and State levels.
Why Participate?
For decades, these programs have helped students develop public speaking, writing, and critical thinking skills, while also encouraging reflection on civic values. As past winners have shared, VFW scholarships can open doors to higher education and future opportunities.
