At Tye’s House, they believe in creating pathways for veterans that go beyond temporary fixes. Our Local Food Heroes Program is one part of a larger ecosystem designed to transform lives and strengthen communities.
How It All Connects
The journey begins with veterans experiencing housing instability. Through housing support at Veterans Haven North, they move into stability. From there, the Local Food Heroes Program provides agricultural training, followed by business development support—the ultimate goal: independent agricultural enterprises that contribute to broader community food security.
Here’s the pipeline they are building:
- Veterans experiencing housing instability
- Stable housing at Veterans Haven North
- Agricultural training through Local Food Heroes
- Business development support
- Independent agricultural enterprises
- Stronger community food security
Where Are They Now
- Housing support is already in place through existing programs.
- A $250,000 SARE grant is funding veteran training.
- A one-acre market farm is being established right now.
- Our first veteran cohort launches Spring 2026.
- Sweet Bulb is creating markets for specialty crops.
- FinStead Consulting is providing business development support.
What They Are Building
This is not about temporary jobs. They are building sustainable careers for veterans. Those who complete the program will gain:
- Hands-on regenerative farming skills
- Business development knowledge
- Access to land opportunities
- Market connections for their products
- A lasting peer support network
The Roles That Make It Possible
Lead Farmer ($67K): The agricultural expert who turns vision into practice
Agricultural Teaching Apprentice ($40K): The bridge between learning and teaching
Assistant Project Manager ($50/hr): The coordinator who keeps the entire project moving
They are already receiving applications, which shows just how much demand there is for this approach. But we want to be sure the right people know about these opportunities.
