About Welcome Home Vets of NJ
Welcome Home Vets of New Jersey is an entirely volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping our service men and women overcome obstacles in their return to civilian life. America asked these stalwart men and women to possibly die in it’s defense and yet, when they return home, the support provided is often inadequate. We strive to provide former service members from all conflict eras, legal assistance as well as help with access to medical services, housing and jobs.
Housing Assistance
Welcome Home Vets of NJ understands that one of the vital needs of our Veterans and their families is shelter. Having a roof over your head is something most of us take for granted. Too many of our Veterans are homeless. Nationally, almost 50,000 Veterans are Homeless on any given night.
WHV has many resources that can provide temporary and permanent Housing assistance to our Veterans. We also provide assistance when a Veteran or their family is threatened with foreclosure or eviction.
Employment
One of the most difficult transitions from Military to Civilian life is finding employment. WHV helps our Veterans from all Branches of Service and any age group find employment. We have resources that can help them to create a resumé, practice interviewing, provide proper attire for their interviews and we share all of the employment opportunities that are sent to our and other organizations. Transportation can become a obstacle to employment for our Veterans. Automobile donations and other means of transportation have been provided through our resources.
Medical Assistance
Many of Veterans are not aware of the benefits that are provided by the VA. One of the most underutilized is Healthcare. Less than 10% of Veterans use the available benefits. All Veterans are able to utilize the VA for their Healthcare needs. Many Veterans suffer from the invisible wounds of war. They often feel uncomfortable reaching out for the help they need. We urge everyone who knows a Veteran in need to help them find the help they need. Ask us to help.
WHV can help Veterans navigate into the system and introduce them to the individuals within the VA that can best assist them.
