About Veterans Health Alliance of Long Island (VHALI)

The Veterans Health Alliance of Long Island was established on November 14, 2007, as a project of The Mental Health Association. VHALI is comprised of representatives from State and County Government, the VA Medical Center, Veterans Organizations, Mental Health & Substance Abuse Providers, Universities, Hospitals, individual Veterans, and Civilians who all have a Personal Interest in supporting Long Island Veterans.

Our mission is to build a friendly veteran community by “Promoting the health and well-being of Long Island veterans and their families through advocacy and a broad array of Services.”

PFC Joseph Dwyer Program – Nassau County Vet2Vet Peer Networking

Seeking a connection with your fellow Nassau County Veterans? Need a support buddy to overcome personal challenges? Want to continue your “Service” by helping fellow veterans in need?

Nassau is proud to be part of the New York State PFC Joseph Dwyer Program. Utilizing the national Vet2Vet model developed by Moe Armstrong, a decorated Vietnam Veteran, we provide structured, small-group environments where veterans meet weekly to share knowledge, exchange resources, and provide mutual support.

Core Program Values
✓ Absolute Confidentiality: Groups maintain strict confidentiality. What is shared in the room stays in the room.
✓ Total Inclusivity: Open to veterans of all generations, eras, and branches, regardless of discharge status.
✓ Led by Peers: Co-facilitated by a diverse team of fellow veterans trained in providing strategic peer support.
✓ Zero Barriers: Vet2Vet groups are entirely FREE of charge. No pre-registration is necessary—just show up.
