United Veterans Beacon House
About United Veterans Beacon House
The true character of a nation is measured, in part, by the honor of those who have served it well. United Veterans Beacon House, founded in 1994 and headquartered in Bay Shore, New York, honors those who have served to protect our nation. While most Americans pay homage on Veterans Day each year, the challenges faced by many veterans exist each and every day. As many veterans and their families strive to develop and maintain productive lives, Beacon House provides essential services to assist in the journey toward fruitful independence.
Our Purpose
Beacon House provides shelter to the homeless, sustenance to the hungry, and renewal to those ailing in mind and body.
We provide compassionate care, clean and safe housing, and meaningful services for those with physical disabilities, PTSD, traumatic brain injury, mental health issues and addiction. We have helped nearly 30,000 individuals since 1994, and we continue our mission to guide men and women toward a life of stability and independence.
Residential Programs
Short-term, long-term and transitional housing is provided throughout Long Island in 58 group homes, emergency shelters, and select single-family residences. Those eligible include homeless veterans, veterans with families, veterans and non-veterans with substance abuse and mental health issues, women in need of supportive housing, and those living with HIV/AIDS.
Every veteran resident has access to intensive case management, transportation and daily living essentials.
Services are made possible through funding from NYS OTDA, Veteran Administration, HUD, and Suffolk County

Veteran Employment Program
Beacon House provides valuable training and support in resume writing, job readiness workshops, job search and interview skills to homeless Veterans and those returning from active duty in current military efforts.
Through the Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program funded by NYS Department of Labor, veterans learn the tools necessary to secure sustainable employment, and to become independent and self-sufficient. If you are a homeless veteran or believe you may qualify for this program, please contact Lena Tewari.
In addition to this program, Beacon House has partnered with HumanHire to expand employment opportunities for veterans who may not qualify for direct support through our reintegration program. Veterans seeking job placement outside of the reintegration program can visit www.humanhire.com/bh/ to start the process.
