About Bob Woodruff Foundation

Ensure veterans and their families receive the support they need to lead fulfilling lives.

The Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) is a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting veterans, service members, and their families by addressing the unique challenges they face after military service. Founded in 2006 by journalist Bob Woodruff and his family after he sustained a traumatic brain injury from a roadside bomb while covering the Iraq War, the foundation has grown into a major force in improving the lives of those who’ve served.

Grantmaking and Funding: BWF provides funding to community-based programs that directly serve veterans, military families, and caregivers. These grants focus on areas such as mental health, substance abuse, employment, housing, and food security.
Got Your 6 Network: This initiative connects local communities, service providers, and government agencies to ensure veterans receive comprehensive support. “Got Your 6” is a military term meaning “I’ve got your back,” symbolizing the network’s mission to be there for veterans.

Mental Health and Rehabilitation: The foundation prioritizes mental health care, especially for those dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and other combat-related conditions. They fund innovative treatment programs and work to reduce the stigma around seeking help.

Employment and Education: BWF helps veterans transition into civilian careers by supporting job training, education, and mentorship programs. They aim to reduce unemployment and underemployment among veterans.
Emergency Financial Assistance: In times of crisis, the foundation provides financial relief to veterans and their families, ensuring they have access to essentials like housing and food.

Advocacy and Awareness: BWF also raises public awareness about the challenges faced by veterans, pushing for policy changes and encouraging communities to step up and support those who’ve served.

Since its founding, BWF has invested millions in programs across the U.S., partnering with hundreds of organizations and positively impacting the lives of thousands of veterans and their families. Their work is driven by a belief that no veteran should be left behind after serving their country.
