AMVETS New York
About AMVETS New York
Veterans Serving Veterans for 80 Years
Founded in 1944 by World War II veterans, AMVETS was created to help returning servicemembers access the benefits they earned and to provide a strong voice for the veteran community. Chartered by Congress in 1947, the organization has expanded its membership to include all honorably serving and discharged members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves.
Today, AMVETS is a volunteer-led organization dedicated to advocating for veterans, supporting military families, and strengthening communities through programs, services, and public policy initiatives. Guided by its commitment to preserving freedom and serving those who have served, AMVETS continues to meet the evolving needs of veterans across generations.
AMVETS is a nationally recognized veterans service organization dedicated to supporting veterans, active-duty servicemembers, and their families through advocacy, resources, and community engagement. The organization provides free VA claims assistance, employment and career services, legislative advocacy, and support for veterans experiencing homelessness or transitioning to civilian life. AMVETS also offers scholarship opportunities, volunteer programs, military funeral honors, and youth initiatives that promote leadership and civic engagement. Through its nationwide network of local posts and accredited service officers, AMVETS continues to connect veterans with the resources, benefits, and support they need to thrive.
