The Department of New Jersey Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is calling on the community to support a proposal that would significantly increase property tax relief for eligible New Jersey veterans and their surviving spouses.
The bipartisan proposal, SCR96/ACR129 seeks to increase the annual veterans’ property tax deduction from $250 to $2,500 over four years through a constitutional amendment. The benefit supports eligible veterans who were honorably discharged from active service in the U.S. Armed Forces, along with qualifying surviving spouses.
Where the Proposal Stands: The proposal advanced through the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee on October 5, 2026. Further legislative action and approval by New Jersey voters are required before the increased deduction can take effect. The New Jersey VFW is urging community members to contact their state legislators and help move this proposal forward. Your voice can help demonstrate why greater property tax relief matters to veterans and their families.
Take Five Minutes to Make Your Voice Heard Contact your State Senator and Assemblymembers and ask them to support and co-sponsor SCR96/ACR129.
