The New York State Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS) helps Veterans and their families get the benefits they have earned through military service.

DVS offers free help with Veterans’ benefits. Our Veterans Benefits Advisors work in offices across New York State. Every advisor is a Veteran. They understand military service and the challenges Veterans and families may face.

Veterans Benefits Advisors help: Veterans, Spouses, Children, Parents.

Advisors can help you:

• Fill out benefit applications
• Gather required records and documents
• File benefit claims
• Respond to requests for more information
• Appeal a denied claim

DVS also works with other state, federal, local, and private organizations. These partnerships help Veterans and their families access services such as:

• Employment and job training
• Education benefits
• Medical care and home health services
• Rehabilitation services
• Financial assistance
• Property tax exemptions
