About Concern for Independent Living

Everyone Deserves a Place to Call Home

Concern Housing’s mission is to provide housing and services that enrich lives and strengthen communities.

Founded in 1972 by family advocates in Central Islip, New York, Concern initially focused on developing and operating supportive housing programs on Long Island. In 2011, Concern expanded its work to New York City, developing properties in Brooklyn and the Bronx.

Today, Concern has developed over 1,700 homes for people who might otherwise struggle to find stable housing, with more than 500 additional units currently in development, and a goal of doubling its available capacity by 2032.

Concern develops high‑quality, attractive homes that integrate well into surrounding communities and that residents are proud to call home, paired with services that support stability, growth, and independence.

Building Homes and Communities for Veterans

For over a decade, Concern has worked to reverse the trend of veteran homelessness through the development of dedicated communities on Long Island and Coney Island and through employment initiatives like Cyclone Bagels that help veterans get back into the workforce.
