About United Way of Long Island

United Way of Long Island mobilizes the caring power of our community to create impactful and lasting change across Long Island. By bringing together people, partners and resources, we expand opportunities for youth, improve health and well-being, strengthen financial security, and build resilient communities. Together, we are creating a future where every individual and family has the opportunity to thrive.

Mission United is a critical funding source for programs of United Way of Long Island supporting U.S. military veterans and their families. Mission United funding helps provide services and resources in career training, employment assistance and emergency financial aid. Through Mission United, United Way is aligning existing services and creating solutions where there are gaps in support. The need for these services is particularly significant on Long Island, as there are more than 80,000 veterans living in our communities. For more information contact Bdepena@unitedwayli.org

VETSBUILD

VetsBuild, a signature program of United Way of Long Island’s Mission United, is dedicated to the support of veterans and their families in our community. Many veterans on Long Island struggle to find a career path that will lead to financial independence. VetsBuild represents United Way of Long Island’s commitment to addressing this problem by providing job training in the green energy construction field for our local heroes.

ACCESS TO HOMES FOR VETERANS PROGRAM

United Way of Long Island is proud to offer a new initiative that honors the service of our nation’s veterans. The Access to Home for Heroes/Veterans Program provides financial assistance to make accessibility modifications to the primary residences of veterans with disabilities. These modifications empower veterans to live safely, independently and comfortably in their homes.
