About Blue Star Families - New York-Tri-State

Craig Newmark New York Tri-State

The families of our all-volunteer military make unprecedented sacrifices these days to serve our country. Blue Star Families was founded by military family members in 2009 to empower these families to thrive as they serve. We’re committed to strengthening military families by connecting them with their neighbors – individuals and organizations – to create vibrant communities of mutual support. We believe we’re all stronger when we take care of one another.

Blue Star Neighborhood

Blue Star Neighborhood is the nation’s largest digital community solely focused on supporting military-connected families. It is where members, located around the world, can gather in a virtual setting to enjoy all that Blue Star Families has to offer.

Inside the Neighborhood, you’ll find the latest information about your chapter, opportunities to sign up for events, and access to perks and exciting exclusive content.

Blue Star Books

Books have a unique way of expanding our knowledge, connecting us to one another and the world around us, boosting our creativity, and even offering a restorative pause amidst the busyness of life. That is why we created the Blue Star Books Program — to positively impact the lives of military- and Veteran-connected families through the power of reading.

With the generosity of partners and supporters like The Walt Disney Company, we are able to donate books to military children, base libraries, Department of Defense schools, and military-impacted public schools and libraries. We also host book club programs for both families and adults, as well as events surrounding Month of the Military Child, Read Across America Day, and more.

Blue Star Careers

Ready to find success as a career-minded military spouse — even in the face of many challenges the military lifestyle throws your way? With Blue Star Careers, you can achieve your goals by accessing comprehensive career development resources — no matter where your military journey takes you.

Blue Star Outdoors

Nature offers a vital space for military families to foster belonging, strengthen bonds, and boost overall well-being. Whether exploring public lands like national parks, forests, and waterways or finding joy in local parks, backyards, and community green spaces, connecting with the outdoors nurtures both mental and physical health. Yet many military families face barriers—such as lack of awareness, logistical challenges, or limited opportunities—that hinder their access to these enriching experiences. Blue Star Families ensures that the unique challenges of military life don’t stand in the way of outdoor connection, offering accessible programs that inspire exploration, education, and recreation, whether close to home or across the country.

Peer-to-Peer Support Networks

This is a community where individuals with similar experiences come together to provide mutual assistance, encouragement, and understanding. They offer a unique form of support that can significantly contribute to individuals’ well-being and resilience.

In a peer-to-peer support network, participants actively listen, empathize, and provide non-judgmental support based on their own lived experiences. The primary goal is to foster a sense of belonging, reduce isolation, and empower individuals to navigate and overcome their challenges through the support and wisdom of others who have or are going through similar journeys.

Together with our partners, we provide in-person and online ways to overcome barriers and build networks of support.
